Although amateur radio operators are used to using the ITU phonetic alphabet, when RACES operators are authorized to use
County radio equipment on public safety frequencies (such as in the Communications Van) ITU phonetics should not be used.  You
MUST use the "Law Enforcement" version shown above to avoid confusion with dispatchers and deputies.  On the other hand,
the Law Enforcement version should not be used in ham communications, such as on a repeater.  

It is suggested that you work hard on memorizing the ITU (HAM) version to the point that it becomes automatic.  Become
familiar with the Law Enforcement version, but since, in Wahkiakum County,  it will be posted at the operating site(s) (van, op
center, etc.) you can use that posting for a ready reference.  I have found that trying to learn both versions well will just
become confusing, especially during an emergency.
